It is with deepest regrets that the Officers and the Members of the Deale Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad announce the passing of Mr. Bernard Calvin Phipps. Bernard Calvin Phipps, a lifelong resident of Deale, passed away July 2, 2016 surrounded by his family. The only child of Bernard Lucius “Bud” and Lena Phipps was born September 20, 1924 at the Phipps Family Homestead. He attended Deale School and Southern High School. Calvin served in the United States Marine Corps and was a combat veteran of WWII in the Pacific Theater. He married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Nutwell Marshall in 1946 and they were married for over 50 years. Calvin spent many years working as a waterman, proprietor of Phipps Marine Railway and as a Marine Surveyor. He and his wife also owned Phipps LTD Antiques. He was a faithful member of Faith Assembly of God, previously Deale Assembly of God for more than 60 years where he served on the Board of Directors, as Sunday School Superintendent and Youth Leader. It is with deep sympathy that the Deale Volunteer Fire Department announces the death of Robert Glenn Wilkerson also known as “Spot” or “Bobby” on August 11, 2015. Mr. Wilkerson was a Life member of the Deale Volunteer Fire Department, serving over 65 years for the department. He also held the position of Chaplain most recently. He will be greatly missed and our continued thoughts and prayers go out to the Wilkerson family during this time.
